Latur: Erratic rainfall last year and heavy rainfall this year has directly affected the production of agricultural produce. Due to this, the prices of all food items are seen increasing. Pulses have started the process of reaching daily highs.
Turi has very low income in Latur Agricultural Produce Market Committee. In the past few days, the prices of Turi have been increasing continuously. Turi has been bought in the market today for twelve thousand rupees per quintal. After processing it, when Turdal comes to the market, its price is also increasing. Today, the price of turdali in the retail market is Rs 175 per kg. Toor Dal has become expensive during the festive season . Turdal, which was Rs 100 two months ago, has now gone from Rs 160 to Rs 175 per kg. The prices of gram dal, uddi dal, masoor dal and moong dal have also increased by an average of Rs 20 to 30 in two months and the rise in the price of pulses is likely to continue throughout the year.
Due to low production last year and high prices of pulses in the global market, pulses prices have increased in the domestic market. Turdal has gone from Rs 100-110 to Rs 160-170 in two months. Gram dal has gone from Rs 57 to Rs 58 to Rs 70 per kg. Udid dal has increased from Rs 90 to Rs 110 per kg, and masoor dal has also seen an increase of Rs 10-12 per kg. Moong dal has gone from Rs 80 to Rs 85 to Rs 110.
Cultivation of pulses has decreased in Kharif season across the country. Pulses are cultivated only if there is rain suitable for sowing by the end of June. This year, due to rain at the end of July, the sowing of pulses has decreased. By the end of August 25 last year, pulses had been cultivated on 128.07 lakh hectares in the country. This year it has fallen to 117.44 lakh hectares. Turi is cultivated on 42.11 lakh hectares, Udid on 31.10 lakh hectares, Moong on 30.64 lakh hectares, Kulith on 0.26 lakh hectares and other pulses on 13.34 lakh hectares. The prices of pulses are likely to remain high for the next year due to the decline in cultivation.
At present, the arrival of tur and gram in the market is very low. The government had started a guarantee purchase centre. There was no price for gram in the market and the best price was at the guaranteed price center. For this reason, the farmers sold their guaranteed gram to the Centre. A total of 95 lakh metric tonnes of gram was produced in India. Out of that 30 lakh metric tons of gram has been purchased by the government. Although turmeric and gram now fetch good market prices, the income is very low as the farmer does not have any goods.
As the price of tur dal moong dal ud dal gram dal masoor dal changes every two days, the trader is not even selling the goods in bulk and the retail traders are under a lot of stress while buying. Due to the daily changing prices, it is seen that it has a direct effect on the consumers as well.
There are no signs of abating
Last year's reduced cultivation of pulses due to erratic rainfall has affected pulses production and this year the impact of rainfall in other states including Maharashtra has directly affected the production of agricultural produce. Due to this, the production of pulses in all the countries is low this year. This has directly affected the price increase in the market. It is no longer the case that the rains will fall and the crops will be good. Production has been greatly affected by the influx of rains. It is said that the prices of all types of pulses have increased due to the possibility of production in the next season itself.
